User research and GenAI: Better together
Talk Synopsis
GenAI has the power to transform nearly every facet of our day-to-day lives, but it remains to be seen whether that will prove to be a good thing. User Research can help make sure it is. GenAI and User Research have a mutually beneficial relationship— User Research can ensure that GenAI solutions are being used to address genuine user needs and that certain user groups aren’t being left behind from the benefits, and GenAI-enabled tools have the potential to make user research more efficient, actionable, and even fun. I aim to explore this relationship and its potential for good.
About Rachel Walker
Growing up in Silicon Valley, Rachel was immersed in the tech world from a young age, and her background in psychology became a natural segue into user experience research. Spending the early years of her career working for Google, Apple, and Amazon gave her an appreciation for innovation and user-centred design. The UK stole her heart during a Master’s program in London, and she never looked back. While on a foray in the world of Consulting, Rachel led the establishment of KPMG UK’s AI Centre of Excellence, focusing on putting in place AI best practices and informing their wider-AI strategy. Rachel is passionate about advocating for user research’s role in ensuring that the GenAI transformation has a positive impact on people’s lives instead of exacerbating existing societal issues. Happily back in tech, Rachel currently leads user research for Ivanti focusing on the user experience of cybersecurity and asset management products.
